Giethoorn and Outlet Shopping Center Private Tour
Giethoorn is a peaceful village in the Dutch countryside that is often referred to as the “Little Venice” of the Netherlands, due to its numerous waterways and absence of roads and cars. Its beautiful canals, picturesque wooden bridges, and farmhouses with centuries-old thatched roofs give it a unique fairy-tale feel. Our driver will take us to Giethoorn, where the group has ample time to explore the town.
As most of Giethoorn is only accessible by boat, it has become famous for being a village without roads. In winter the main mode of transportation is ice-skating. It borders the Weerribben-Wieden National Park, which is the largest fen in northwestern Europe. During the trip you’ll enjoy the beautiful waterways, old farmhouses, and experience the peace, tranquility and natural beauty of this magical place. Take your time to explore this fairy-tale village without roads on your own, take pictures, or grab something to eat.
Outlet Shopping Center Bataviastad
On our way to the Outlet Shopping Center Bataviastad, we drive through the province of ‘Flevoland’. This province is completely made of reclaimed land. The area we drive through is just behind a dike, keeping the province from flooding. On top of this dike, we pass a string of windmills used to generate electricity for the people in the region.
Once we arrive at Bataviastad, the group has the opportunity to shop within a reconstructed Dutch town. The beautifully made shopping outlet is full of great stores where you find a wide variety in assortment.
Part of Bataviastad is a full-size replica of the 17th century ship ‘Batavia’. The original sailed in 1628 and ran ashore in Australia. This current replica’s build started 30 years ago as part of the social welfare employment project. To this day, there are activities on the boat and visitors to the Outlet Shopping Center can visit the boat. We enjoy dinner at Bataviastad which has a variety of options.

We heard about this place where the Dutch like to go ice skating – something we’ve never seen in Brisbane. Giethoorn is a beautiful little town that we wanted to see with our own eyes. Despite the cold day, we had heaps of fun. And we couldn’t resist going to a the outlet for some shopping.
